Museums

Take in the culture of an island with a 10,000 year old history. Where the ancient city-kingdom of Marion-Arsinoe once flourished, the Polis region has much to offer culture lovers. Marvel at the wonderful ancient artefacts and pottery from Marion-Arsinoe in the Polis Archeological Museum, including one of the largest clay statues found in Cyprus. Admire the colourful wall paintings and rich examples of Byzantine ecclesiastical art in the picturesque medieval churches. Or get a feel of the simple life in the various folk museums found in some of the villages of the region, showcasing the various tools and implements used in daily activities. There’s even a museum where you can even see the region’s birdlife, as well as fossils and rock formations that the island is famous for, being one of the few places in the world where geologists can study what was once the ocean floor without getting wet.
