The best way to see the region is by car. Go for a drive through the countryside and visit places you won’t find in the guidebooks. Admire the view from the top of the Akamas mountain top at the Cyprus Forestry Department’s lookout point where you can see across both the north and western coasts of Cyprus. Drive through the hidden villages in the hills above Polis or take a longer trip along the coast past Pomos and Pachyammos reaching Pyrgos, with its sandy beach in the shape of the Greek letter omega, famous for its figs. Or turn up into the Troodos mountains to Stavros tis Psokas and the cedar valley, going on to the Kykkos monastery, and back down to Pafos via the resort of Platres and the picturesque village of Omodhos. There are lots of beautiful places to explore where you can be at one with nature.
